Item Sponsors Robocup German Open

item Industrietechnik GmbH is sponsoring the “RoboCup German Open 2012”, Europe’s largest competition for robots, and will be present at the four-day event, which is taking place from 30 March to 1 April 2012 in the Messe Magdeburg exhibition centre. Metalvogue GmbH, an expert in turning and milling design and a long-term cooperation partner to item, is constructing a specially designed robot course with item profiles for the “RoboCup Junior Rescue” competition.

During the RoboCup competitions, programmed robots are sent out on a course that they have to complete without help from the outside. They follow a black line, avoid obstacles and rescue a “victim”.

Metalvogue’s course for the RoboCup Junior Rescue discipline has been constructed from aluminium profiles, plexiglass and MDF panels. It is a multi-level maze and features a ramp with a gradient of around 21 degrees. In order to complete their task, the robots have to negotiate a range of lighting conditions as well as the change in elevation.

The RoboCup initiative aims to organise competitions designed to promote the development of intelligent robots. Two major tournaments will be staged during this year’s German Open – the 12th Robot Junior RoboCup Championship, during which schoolchildren pit their robot designs against each other, and the International RoboCup Major Competition, an international tournament for researchers and scientists.

Entry to the entire event is free to visitors.

The competitions are being staged in Halls 1 and 2 of the Messe Magdeburg exhibition centre. item, a manufacturer of building kit systems for industrial applications, will be running a stand at the venue to showcase its work bench solutions.

item Industrietechnik GmbH from Solingen, Germany, develops and supplies the MB Building Kit System, a system which enables customised solutions for all aspects of industrial factory equipment engineering. The Building Kit System is based on aluminium profiles, carefully coordinated fasteners, and versatile functional elements.
